Terroir de ZINIO
Since last century, the storks which appear in the main image on the labels of our wines nest in the church of Uruñuela and name the inhabitants of this village ‘Storkies.’
It is a project of 72 Ha. within the 400 Ha. of the total vineyard of the winery, that is to say 16% of our vineyard, with Tempranillo, Grenache y Graciano varieties.
For these wines, we have a low yield, between 3500 and 6000 kilos per hectare.
- ZINIO Grenache
- ZINIO 200 Tempranillo & Graciano
- ZINIO Crianza Vendimia Seleccionada Tempranillo
- ZINIO Reserva Tempranillo
- ZINIO Selección de Suelos Tempranillo
Terroir de ZINIO PROJECT includes plots of different areas and soils for each of the wines within the three different areas in which our vineyard is divided:
AREA 1: Vineyards planted between 450 and 490 meters of altitude at the lower terrace from our vineyard, in alluvial soil which allows us to achieve light, really fruity wines with the typical characteristics of a pure Tempranillo from Rioja.
AREA 2: Located between 490 and 550 meters of altitude, it is formed by alluvial and clay-based soils, mainly on the surface. This soil heterogeneity provides us a great fruit complexity and significantly characterizes the area. However, it should be noted that alluvium provides us with lighter-bodied wines, but with more finesse and, above all, wines which are prepared for their much earlier consumption.
AREA 3: It is a series of plots located between 550 and 590 meters of altitude, formed by a meseta and a slope and planted on very poor argyle-clay soils. They are ideal for long-term Crianza and Reserva production. The contribution of calcium as a main factor in the accumulation of color and aromas of the grape, along with clay which will let the plant receive the necessary humidity to complete the ripening of Tempranillo wine, make these soils ideal for cultivation of bush vines system, maximum defender of the long Crianza wines from Rioja.
Grapes from this area are mainly used for the production of ZINIO Vendimia Seleccionada, ZINIO Reserva and ZINIO Selección de Suelos.
Picking of these grapes is carried out by hand mainly from bush vines, typical of our area.
Through plots selection which comply with a list of requirements (age, maximum production, health and grape tasting) together with the grapes chosen from those which arrive at the winery, we have everything necessary to produce each of the wines that make up our Terroir de ZINIO range.
