Aprisco 2021 – Tempranillo Wine from Rioja Alta with Heritage, Altitude and International Recognition
Aprisco 2021 is more than just a wine. It’s an experience. A pause, a memory, a landscape. This 100% Tempranillo comes from old vines planted at 480 meters above sea level, rooted in the poor, stony soils of Rioja Alta. Shaped by a demanding climate, it is a wine defined by origin, character and patience.
This first limited edition — from the 2021 vintage — is an invitation to rediscover the essence of a region, a tradition, and a winemaking philosophy where respect for the land is as important as the final result.
Aprisco: The Name, the Symbol and Its Meaning
In the pastoral culture of La Rioja, an aprisco is a shelter where shepherds and their flocks rest during transhumance. A simple, sacred space. A pause along the path, where time slows down and the earth feels close again.
That spirit defines this wine: a meaningful pause, a sensory experience that invites reflection and reconnection. Aprisco is land, it is calm, it is return.
The logo, featuring a goat, is no coincidence. This animal symbolizes freedom, resilience, and balance. Like old vines that thrive in harsh conditions, the goat represents strength, wisdom and adaptability. It is the perfect emblem for a wine born of effort, silence and time.
High-Altitude Vineyard: Origin, Conditions and Character
The grapes that give life to Aprisco 2021 come from estate-owned vineyards planted in 1978, located at 480 meters above sea level in the Rioja Alta region. The calcareous and stony soils bring structure, freshness and minerality. Harsh soils that force the vine to struggle and dig deep, resulting in more concentrated and expressive fruit.
The 2021 vintage was challenging and key to its identity:
-
-
Cold spring, delaying bud break.
-
Hot, dry summer, causing moderate water stress.
-
September rainfall, which helped complete ripening while preserving the grapes’ health.
-
These factors combined to create a wine with firm structure, aromatic expression and remarkable elegance.
Winemaking: Time, Patience and Respect
Harvest was carried out in stages, based on each plot’s ripeness. Grapes were hand-harvested and carefully selected.
Fermentation was gentle and controlled, preserving the varietal purity of Tempranillo. The wine then aged for 12 months in French oak barrels, followed by 24 months of bottle aging, resulting in a harmonious, complex, and polished expression.
The result is a balanced, long, and silky wine — deep yet fresh — with significant aging potential.
